Why You Should Live In Hull

There's a lot of amazing famous cities in the United Kingdom from London to Edinburgh, but in the center of the two on the east coast sits Kingston Upon Hull. A city not known by many, but with a plethora of benefits to bring people from all over the world to choose to call it home. Here's why living in Hull is pretty great:

Affordable housing in a city environment

In 2021, a study by RM Mortgage Solutions showed that Hull had the lowest average rent of any other city in the country at just £412 a month. This is less than half of the average of the country as a whole and 18% of the average salary in the Hull area. On top of this, there are plenty of HMOs (House of multiple occupation) available to bring your rent down even further if you're not too concerned with living on your own.

Tons of takeaway

Like every city, Hull is not exempt to the excess of options. With a handful of takeaway delivery apps from JustEats, Deliveroo, and Foodhub to name a few serving the area, Hull has it all. Whether you want Chinese, Thai, Indian, American, Halal, there are plenty of options all over town. The average budget restaurant meal is also £5 less than average in Hull at £10 and a pint on average is only £3.

Great for maritime history lovers

If you're a fan of boats, fishing, and all things maritime, Hull is the place for you. Hugging the coast of the Humber, Hull is rich with history of endeavors on the ocean. Hull's Maritime Museum which is currently experiencing renovations is a great place to learn of exhibits exploring whaling, fishing, and trawling with artifacts and art from decades past. You can also find the Arctic Corsair, Hull's last sidewinder trawler as well as the Spurn Lightship in the museum quarter. Hull is also home to The Deep, a large aquarium that houses 6,500 fish, including sharks, sawfish, rays, and penguins, and draws tourists from all over.

Lots of city events

Hull and namely Hull's Queen Victoria Square is often home to many different kinds of events. From The Wizarding World's Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore erecting large light-up statues of famous Harry Potter wands to massive light and sound shows about the entire history of life on Earth and the ways in which we are all connected, we've got it all. We have Pride, we have parades, we have festivals, we have Hull Fair, there is always something going on in Hull. Stay tuned here to hear our thoughts on all of it as it comes and read my previous posts on the wands and the "About Us" light and sound show.

Thank you for reading and I hope to see you around Hull!
