Travelling Cheap: What You Need to Know

In the modern day, if you have the cash and a specific destination in mind, you can travel almost anywhere in the world pretty fast. However, if you're like me and like to save a buck on the travelling itself to save it for when you arrive, you may need to consider some alternative methods to how you get from point A to point B.

Spending nearly my entire life travelling all over the United States with my family, and now starting my journeys in the United Kingdom and Europe, I've picked up quite a few tips and tricks. Assuming you can't just drive everywhere or don't have the desire to, airports are still a great way to get somewhere fast, and RyanAir is the airline to fly with. If like me, you don't live in a city with a major airport such as Leeds, Manchester, or London, you might find yourself having to take a train. In these cases, you'll often need to wake up extremely early and set out on one of the first trips of the day to arrive at the airport in time, or consider staying in a cheap local hostel for the night, but make sure to book as far in advance as you can as these can get expensive fast. You can also attempt to stay up through the night, loitering at clubs or other late night/24-hour establishments and sleep at the airport and on your plane if that's something you feel comfortable doing. The hostel price included should more often than not still end up cheaper with a RyanAir flight than most other airlines.

With RyanAir, you can get one-way flights to Paris Beauvais, Ibiza, and Warsaw among many others or less than a tenner, all depending on your local airport of course.

However, these tickets do come with a few quirks. Often times, they'll only come once every few days, and these prices are for the cheapest flight options which pretty much just means you have an unreserved seat on a plane for you and a small bag that fits under the seat in front of you. Make sure you know what the airline's check-in policy is and follow it accordingly. It's generally best to check in on your phone or computer in advance rather than at the airport as that might incur some extra fees.

This means, you're going to want to pack light. Roll your clothes tightly, take only the clothes you need to keep yourself warm, and leave that big fluffy cardigan at home... Or wear it on the flight along with a couple other layers. Get some travel-sized shampoo or other sanitary products as you need them once you arrive and try to keep your souvenirs small or compactible. You can fit a lot more than people often think with a good tight packing job.

A hostel once you arrive will likely be your cheapest option again, however depending on the destination, you might find an AirBnB cheaper and of course much more private and personal.

Rather than heading home, I personally like to bounce my trips from place to place, going from one destination to another before heading back to England to save a bit on those initial transportation costs, but that can be quite a complicated way of doing it and is totally up to the individual.

Anyways, that's all I've got for you. Remember that travelling is supposed to be fun and informative, there's a lot out there that many never get to experience, and cultures are vastly different everywhere. We as tourists need to be respectful of the locals as we are guests and representatives of our home countries.

Travel safe,
