The Queen's Platinum Jubilee

England is known for a few things around the world, crumpets, tea, Doctor Who, and The Royal Family. Generally loved and respected, the Royal family is a spectacle and reminder of England's historical monarchies though the family's role has been drastically reduced over the last one hundred years. At the head of the family sits "The Queen" also known as Queen Elizabeth II.

Her Majesty has been at the top of the Royal Family, sitting on the throne since her father George VI's passing in February of 1952 making February 6th, 2022 her 70th anniversary in the role. In the history of British monarchs, Jubilees have existed to celebrate ten year milestones starting at 50 years in service starting with George III in 1809. Queen Victoria was the only other to receive jubilees, celebrating her 50th, and 60th, also known as the Golden and Diamond Jubilees. Queen Elizabeth's jubilee will be the first Platinum Jubilee in the entire history of British monarchs.

To celebrate, cities all over the United Kingdoms are going to be experiencing over 2000 public events and over 2000 street parties from June 2nd to June 5th over an extended bank holiday weekend. The Hull/Hessle area will be containing five such events with the Beverly area containing three. Individuals can host their own street parties by following official guidelines that can be found here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/your-guide-to-organising-a-street-party/your-guide-to-organising-a-street-party#what-sort-of-events-does-this-guidance-apply-to

If you'd prefer to go out to celebrate, the Hull City Council will be hosting a flotilla at the Humber Estuary on June 2nd. The Matstons will be hosting a Family Fun Day on June 4th at the Goodfellowship on Cottingham road, having bands, singers, food, drink, a bouncy castle, and inflatable assault course as well as stalls selling bric a brac.

In the Hessle area, the Hessle Town Council will be hosting a beacon lighting at the Hessle Foreshore on June 2nd, and a flower festival on June 3rd at All Saints' Church. Concessions will be available.

There is lots to do in Hull for The Queen's Platinum Jubilee, the first ever next weekend and we have multiple locations for you and your friends or family to stay to indulge in the festivities.

We hope to see you there!
