Starting on April 30th, The Poetry Society, Stemettes, and 59 Productions are bringing an incredible free outdoor light and sound event exploring the history of the universe through multimedia platforms to Queen Victoria Square across from Princes Quay, treating us to spectacular visual effects, poetry, and music.

The show, titled "About Us" will feature poems and animation Scratch projects from young people across the United Kingdom and will also include "an extensive learning and participation programme, comprising: free poetry and science resources for teachers of students aged 4-18, poetry workshops that have taken place in primary schools in the show’s five locations, and a nationwide poetry and coding competition for young people." according to their website.

The project has been created as a part of the Unboxed festival, a nationwide creativity festival created as an attempt to re-unify the UK after the divisive passing of Britain's exit from the European Union, also known as Brexit. It was one of ten projects commissioned to promote science, technology, and the arts and promises to be "the biggest and most ambitious creative programme ever presented on these shores."

Unboxed's other shows explore topics such as the human psyche, growing your own sustainable food, and one hoping to "[Bring] together talks, cinema, music and games all under one cosmic theme" in Tour de Moon with one of the festivals taking place a short train ride away in Newcastle from May 27-30th.

"About Us" has already toured in Derry-Londonderry, Caernarfoon, and finishes its show in Luton on April 20th before wrapping up it's show with us in Hull.

You can learn more about the show at their website aboutus.earth.

I hope to see you there,

Dakota Morrill
