MKM Stadium - The Home of Hull Sports

Formerly KCOM Stadium and KC Stadium before that, MKM Stadium is the center of sporting in Hull. Home of the EFL league's Hull City FC as well as Hull F.C, a Super League Rugby team, MKM stands tall on Anlaby Road just a twenty minute walk west of Paragon Station. With a capacity of 25,400, the stadium is the largest rugby league stadium in the entirety of England and often serves as the country's host for international association football and rugby league football competitions and has served as a concert venue to some major artists such as Elton John, The Who, Bon Jovi, and R.E.M.

The desire for a stadium first began circulating back in 1946, but was first raised officially in 1997. The idea struggled to find funds for the massive project and were forced to sell a portion of it's holdings to the KCOM Group to finance it. In the end, the council provided over 42 million pounds with the rest coming from government single recreation budget grants and the Football Stadia Improvement Fund, an organization that provides grants and loans to lower level football clubs in England funded by the Premier League.

The site was decided to be The Circle in West Park, a cricket ground that was mostly used by the Yorkshire County Cricket Club, but also held matches by teams from all around the world. The site was chosen thanks to the fact it already had these athletic facilities as well as its easy accessibility through already existing means of public transportation among other things.

Contruction began in December of 2001 and finished in a mere 14 months on budget. Doors opened on December 18th of 2002 with a friendly game between Hull City and Sunderland A.F.C being it's debut game with Hull City coming out on top 1 - 0.
